Bio

Sandeep Vaidya was very active in many efforts at BAA, from 1994 to 1998?. He first got involved with the Anne Frank in the World Exhibition, helping to organize the event hosted by BAA, and writing two articles about it for the BAA newsletter.

He participated in various anti-nuclear and anti-war efforts, protesting Chinese nuclear testing at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco in 1994, writing an article for the BAA newsletter about nuclear testing in France and a boycott of French wines in Fall 1995, and calling people to action around US Department of Energy threats to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty in 1997.

Sandeep wrote many other articles for the BAA newsletter on topics outside of BAA’s projects, but of interest to the members. These included a Summer 1994 article urging people to protest Procter & Gamble’s greenwashing in school curricula, and a Winter 1995 article about Critical Mass in San Francisco. In Spring 1995 he told us about the Dumpster Diversion Project, and in Winter 1996 he brought environmental justice to light by examining Romic’s toxic waste spills in East Palo Alto.

In 1995 Sandeep helped build the first BAA website, hosted on Impact Online. In 1997 he was BAA’s volunteer database manager, helping build up the technological capabilities of the office. For example, with Laura Stec he built a system to track volunteer hours (number of volunteers, hours, and number of large single-day projects), which helped project leaders and the council make more informed decisions, and allowed BAA to better quantify impact when applying for foundation grants.

Sandeep served on the BAA Council from 1997 to 1998?
