Festival for the Forests was organized to raise awareness about issues facing California’s endangered forests, and promoted passage of state laws to protect old-growth and improve sustainable timber harvest practices.
The event was held at Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason, San Francisco, on March 23, 1991, noon to 6pm. Due to bad weather, attendance was low, but that didn’t stop organizers from having a good time, and attendees included former California Governor Jerry Brown and David Brower of Earth Island Institute.
It featured speakers, educational and letter writing tables, food (including the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Truck), music, a raffle, and a kids area.
