AKA

BEN

The Business Environmental Networks Conference took place April 22, 1991, for Earth Day 1991, when the theme was “Working Earth Day”. The conference was a collaborative effort between Bay Area Action and the Peninsula Conservation Center (PCC).

The conference was designed to help environmentally-minded business leaders learn how to make their companies more efficient, more economical, and more environmentally responsible. Speakers included executives from some of Silicon Valley’s largest companies and organizations, including Apple Computer, San Jose State University, Tandem, and Xerox, explaining how they dramatically cut waste in their companies and created new profit centers.

Post 1991

After Earth Day 1991, the PCC/PCCF continued the Business Environmental Network (removing the “s” from the end of the name) for a decade, adding an annual awards program recognizing companies whose green accomplishments were particularly noteworthy. The BEN was still a core program of the PCCF in 2000 when it merged with BAA to become Acterra.
