Bio
Ramona Rubin was active with BAA from 1992 to 1995 as a Schools Group intern and volunteer with many projects. She helped coordinate the first Enviro Zest Fest and the subsequently renamed Deep Green Global Training.
Ramona’s brother Zan was also very active in the Schools Group. Their parents, David and Michelle, served on the BAA Council after Ramona left for college.
Post BAA
Ramona earned a BA in Cultural Ecology at UC Santa Cruz and a Masters in Public Health from University of Michigan. She has since built a diverse career focusing on environmental health and education through various roles that combine her passion for nature, education, and data science.
In the early 2000s, Ramona worked as a Stream Monitor intern for the Huron Valley Watershed Council, collecting water samples and measurements from local waterways. She then served as a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan’s Integrative Medicine department, developing tools for measuring holistic health and well-being.
Her commitment to public health was evident in her role as an Epidemiology volunteer at New Waveland Free Medical Clinic in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, where she managed data and reporting for the relief effort. This was followed by a position as Program Evaluator at Native American Health Center, focusing on culturally competent mental health and youth programs.
Since 2010, Ramona has been working as a freelance Evaluation and Research Consultant, providing research coaching, program development support, and data analysis for nonprofits. Her expertise in data science and program evaluation was further utilized in her role as Data Manager and Evaluation Specialist at Youth Radio from 2011 to 2014.
More recently, Ramona has returned to her roots in environmental education. Since 2015, she has been a Volunteer Docent at East Bay Regional Park District’s CA Native Plants Botanic Garden, leading tours for elementary school classes and the public. In 2020, she founded Healing Forest Guide, where she facilitates group nature-based relaxation and connection experiences, combining her skills in nature education, team leadership, and wellness coaching.
