Using state-of-the-art video, television, and music equipment, the BAA Media group is committed to broadcasting the message of environmental awareness to the Bay Area community. In its short lifetime, this highly spirited group has already produced a series of 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) about environmental activities in the area. The first PSA inspired countless intrepid eco-warriors to pick up trash at the annual Baylands Cleanup project in early June. And in an effort to help Palo Alto “clean up its act” and conserve its resources, the next three PSAs will promote recycling for the Downtown Environmental Action Project (DEAP).
All of our PSAs can now be aired on the major satellite cable channels available to us through the generosity of the Cable Co-op System servicing Palo Alto, Menlo Park and the Bay Area. The BAA Media Group spots can be seen on the CNN News Network, the MTV music channel, USA superstation, and the ESPN sports station. BAA headquarters houses a video library and viewing room, lavishly furnished with a recycled couch and several chairs from the sixties.
Environmental videos from our collection can be checked out, or they may be seen in this comfortable setting during the popular BAA Monday night environmental video show (free and open to the public — call for topics).
Later this summer, this group will be producing spots for The Alternative Transportation Task Force, old-growth forest preservation, the Peninsula’s handicapped trail system, CalTrain, East Palo Alto’s Block Captain program, and a host of groups now affiliated with the Peninsula Conservation Center.
Starting in the fall, a weekly radio environmental update will be broadcast on college stations in the South Bay. In addition, the group will be producing and airing a thirty-minute television special featuring several of the most pressing environmental issues in the Bay Area. Also planned are fundraising concerts featuring both conventional and non-traditional music played by local, national, and international bands. Stay tuned for more information!
